Community Involvement

Asa Smith Funeral Service encourages our employees to participate in their communities and is committed to providing them with the time needed to remain involved in community organizations and events. In addition to providing comfort and care to people who have lost a loved one, Asa Smith Funeral Service provides a variety of services to the community, especially the local schools.

Our Director, Robert Ferris, is a member of the Lions Club and was co-founder and leading advocate for the Harrah Community Band. Robert is also an ordained minister and has filled in pulpits for area churches and conducted funerals for some of our very own people.

Karol Shepherd serves on the Board of Directors for the State Fair of Oklahoma Senior Board for Senior Citizens, and she also belongs to several business and professional committees.

Starla Smith, the niece of Asa Smith, is Chancel Choir Director at St. Teresa Catholic Church. She is often called upon to provide music for funeral services. She is the Secretary-Treasurer of the Harrah Community Band, Board member for the Retired Teachers group and the Relay for Life. She also sings the National Anthem at many social, business and athletic events in the area.

John Bill Martin is a charter member of Harrah Church, was Grand Marshal of the 2021 Harrah Day Parade, and is Regional Representative for the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association. He also serves as announcer for athletic events in Harrah and Midwest City and writes a weekly column covering sporting events for the local newspaper. John has been inducted into both the Oklahoma Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Press Association 50-year Hall of Fame.

We made our Sprinter available for tours of Christmas lights and had 11 trips during the holiday season. We also provide calendars to the churches in Harrah, McLoud, Jones, Choctaw. Asa Smith enthusiastically supports the athletic programs at Harrah, Choctaw, Jones and McLoud.
